Bio-TR90 is an advanced thermoplastic material that is much more environmentally friendly than it's non bio-based counterparts, since it is derived from renewable plant sources instead of fossil fuels. This significantly reduces the carbon footprint associated with its production.

We chose this particular grade as it also carries great properties for use as a glasses frame material. It's incredibly durable, flexible and lightweight. Allowing for extremely comfortable, all-day wear.

Another important aspect in adopting a less impactful material, is its recyclability. Bio-based plastics are chemically identical to fossil-fuel based plastics, meaning they are fully recyclable. We also offer a circularity scheme to take back old frames to recycle into new ones.

Our specific grade is derived from castor oil, a natural non-toxic resource that doesn't require pesticides or chemicals to grow. The oil is extracted from castor seeds and processed into biopolymers that can be molded into different shapes. Under certain conditions, castor oil-based plastics can also be biodegradable.

At Coast Optics, we believe in the concept of circularity when it comes to reducing our environmental impact and inspiring change in our industry. We understand that even the best eyewear will eventually reach the end of its life. Instead of it ending up in landfill, we encourage our customers to return their old or broken frames to us for recycling.*

The exciting part. Once we have collected enough material, we are committed to processing it back into its raw form and producing our new frames out of your old ones!

WHY OFFER A FRAME REPLACEMENT PROGRAM?

Environmental Conservation: Eyewear frames are typically made from hard to recycle thermoplastics. Through our recycling program, we can recover these materials and transform them into new frames. This reduces the demand for virgin materials and minimizes the environmental impact of extracting and processing raw materials.

Waste Reduction: Discarded eyewear often ends up in landfills, taking up valuable space and contributing to pollution. By recycling your frames, you help reduce waste and minimize the negative effects on our environment.

Promoting Sustainability: Circular economy principles aim to create a sustainable and regenerative system. By taking part in this scheme, you become part of a larger movement towards a more sustainable eyewear industry, where resources are used efficiently and waste is minimized.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Email info@coastoptics.ca for a pre-paid return postage label and send us your old glasses or goggle frame. Once received, we'll then ensure that the materials from your old eyewear are properly processed and transformed into new products. Plus you'll get 10% off your next order! Easy!
